Active School Flag

Active School Flag Programme

The Active School Flag Programme is a modern, fun and engaging programme with research (by D.C.U.) showing long term benefits for the whole school community including:

    • More physically active school community (including teachers).
    • improved concentration and focus for students in class.
    • improved school atmosphere & pupil-teacher relationships.
    • improved attendance and behaviour in DEIS schools.

All primary schools, using the School Self-Evaluation (SSE) process, are required to review one area of Wellbeing by 2023.   The Active School Flag Programme is a Whole of School initiative which embeds 'being physically active' into the ethos of the school.  It aligns with both 'The Wellbeing Framework' and the 'School Self-Evaluation' (SSE) process and can be used to help schools fulfil their commitments in this regard.  Currently there are 630 schools nationally with Active School Flag status, with 21 of these in Mayo.

Registration for interested Primary Schools and access to ASF application forms available at:  www.activeschoolflag.ie.
