Active School Post Primary Programme Launch

The Active School Post Primary Programme was launched by the Minister for Education and Youth Helen McEntee just last week.
This programme has been in development over the past 8 years with 50 pilot schools from all over the country helping to develop and refine the programme together with insights from research conducted by the University of Limerick and significant backing and funding from both the Department of Health - Healthy Ireland and the Department of Education and Youth.
This innovative and groundbreaking programme seeks to support schools in developing a culture of being physically active during the school day, using a whole of school approach, anchored by student voice and student leadership. Schools are supported through the process with bespoke surveys and school reports, cluster days, mentor support, resources and equipment, participation awards (funding support) and more.
The Active Schools team are now onboarding 50 new post primary schools for participation in the programme from September 2026.
